Making Sense of Soil Health: & It’s Impacts on Farm

Event Info 

Join us for a hands-on day to exploring everything soil health related and how working with your soils can boost farm resilience and profitability hosted by Channel Farm. Soil health advisor Niels Corfield will guide us through understanding, assessing, and managing soils to get the best from the field.

The morning session will give an overview of soil health fundamentals and how they can inform management decisions: soil organisms, how to understand health, nutrient cycling, weeds as indicators, compaction, and more. In the afternoon, we’ll put this into practice on the fields of Channel Farm, showing tools and techniques to observe soil health and apply it to management decisions. 

While the focus is on arable and mixed farms, livestock-only farmers are very welcome to join.

Practical Information

• Parking: There is free parking at the Loch Leven Larder’s, and many spaces available 
• Food: Lunch will be provided. If you have any dietary requirements let us know when you get the ticket in the adequate slot, or message us via text
• Children: The event is child-friendly, but there will be no dedicated childcare. 
• What to Bring: Weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear for uneven, muddy ground. A notebook may help capture key insights.
